The general principles of the CT abdomen examination.
Pathology - Aorta & Lymph Nodes
Aorta
Aneurysm
The aorta normally has a diameter under 2.5 cm. If the aorta is wider but under 3.0 cm, the term ectasia is used. If the aortic diameter exceeds 3.0 cm, it is termed an aneurysm.
It is important to realize that the aorta is located retroperitoneally. If the aorta ruptures, the blood spreads into the retroperitoneal cavity (fig. 30).
